Beyond Health physio profile: Adam Ouston

Adam is a key member of our team at Beyond Health Queen’s Park – he’s an expert physiotherapist who specialises in manual physio. Having graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a degree in Sport and Physical Activity, Adam did a Masters in Physiotherapy at the Robert Gordon University. He has experience in different physiotherapy roles within the NHS, with semi-professional rugby teams in Scotland and New Zealand, and at an international ski resort in Japan.

What made you want to be a physiotherapist?

I have always been passionate about the impact physical activity can have on our bodies and minds. I also love conversing and connecting with people, so a career that combines the two was a no-brainer.

What is manual physio and how do you approach it?

Manual physiotherapy involves hands-on techniques to enhance movement potential and alleviate symptoms. My approach is to use these techniques to create a window for my clients to reintroduce tailored exercises and movements that align with whatever activity they love doing.

Why is good physio so important?

Good physiotherapy is essential because it bridges the gap between recovering from an injury and achieving physical goals, as it empowers individuals to understand their bodies and optimise their performance and well-being.

What excites you the most about being part of the Beyond Health team?

I am excited about the growth I will experience being surrounded by such passionate professionals who are so dedicated to their work.

What are your top pre-workout tips?

Stay hydrated, fuel up, and have a plan for how you’re going to celebrate completing it!

And post-workout?

Rehydrate, refuel and relax!!

What’s your go-to smoothie recipe?

Strawberries, bananas and yoghurt… don’t overcomplicate these things.

What’s your favourite fitness event?

I love half marathons because they hit the sweet spot, combining both power and endurance, while also providing a challenge that pushes me to exceed my limits.

Who is your sporting hero?

Jonah Lomu because he was a beast on the wing for the All Blacks!
