Beyond Health physio profile: Yasmin Milne
Yasmin Milne is a key part of the Beyond Health physiotherapy team, who brings her experience as an international athlete to her physio practice. She is a former Scottish national champion in sprint hurdling, competing at national and international level. Yasmin has a first class honours degree in physiotherapy, and is a qualified APPI Pilates instructor and acupuncture practitioner. Here she tells us how she got passionate about helping people beat their injury problems, her top tips for working out safely and why she’d love Andy Murray to win Wimbledon one more time…
What made you want to be a physiotherapist?
I spent one summer in physio every week for an injury that took me out of the athletics hurdling season and was very invested in my own rehab and how physios had helped me. So, I wanted to be able to do the same for other athletes.
How would you describe your approach to physio?
I bring my years of competitive experience, academic study and clinical care into my practical approach that focuses on positive outcomes. I can sum it up by saying with my help, there is no limit to the goals my clients can set for themselves.
What do you love about your job?
I love being able to help people reach their goals and help improve their quality of life. Over the years, I’ve worked with many sports teams and have a particular interest in treating runners and CrossFit athletes, as I take part in both of these sports myself.
What your top pre-workout tips?
Fuel and hydration are key, especially in the summer in the London heat! My favourite pre-workout fuel is dates and peanut butter. Also, make sure you do an active warm up before going into the main body of your workout. You must ‘feel warm’ before you increase the intensity.
And post-workout?
Re-hydrate with electrolytes, ensure you cool down and allow your heart rate to gradually come back to a resting level.
What’s your favourite post-workout protein smoothie ingredients?
My go-to is vegan vanilla protein, frozen blueberries, spinach, dates and almond milk.
If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
This is a tough one… but I think I would have to go for mac and cheese!
Do you have any sports competitions this year?
Yes, I’m doing the Amsterdam half marathon in October and Hyrox in November.
Who will you be backing this year during Wimbledon 2023?
As a fellow Scot, I’ll be rooting for Andy Murray on his comeback.
